Child & Family Psychology
Dr. Dana Albright, PhD, LP
Clinical Psychologist
I am Dana Albright, a licensed clinical psychologist with over 10 years’ experience providing care to youth and families. As a pediatric psychologist, I am committed to walking alongside children, adolescents, young adults and their families as they navigate live with mental health challenges and chronic and acute health issues.
I translate evidence-based assessments and interventions into individualized, practical solutions that promote mental and physical health while living life to the fullest.Â
The foundation of my work is in motivational interviewing, problem-solving therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. In my experience, some situations can be address with a brief, targeted intervention and other circumstances benefit from a longer-term plan, which can be tailored to meet the need of the individual or family. Enhancing quality of life through evidence-based methods is at the core of my practice.
Illness or impairments should not define the richness of one’s life.Â
I specialize in working with individuals with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes navigate issues such as diabetes management, adjustment to diabetes (including anxiety, depressive symptoms, and behavioral challenges), fear of hypoglycemia, adjustment to medical technology use, family-conflict regarding diabetes management, and lifestyle changes to promote health. I have developed and published strategies for assessing well-being for youth in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as published several interventions to improve various aspects of well-being for youth with diabetes.
Over the course of my career, I have worked in a variety of health systems including Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Mott Children’s Hospital/University of Michigan, and Parkview Health. Through this work, I appreciate the importance of providers and families working as a team for the best interest of the patient. I enjoy collaborating with other health professionals to ensure a comprehensive treatment plan is developed and adapted to promote health and well-being for my patients. In particular, the transition into adolescence and then early adulthood can be extremely difficult to navigate as there are many shifts in roles and responsibilities for chronic illness management. I can help you navigate these transitions.
